It is no coincidence that men are going gray or bald at an increasingly young age—and that women are increasingly affected too!
Many times a day, we consume acidic animal-based foods (dairy, meat, fish, eggs) that damage or shorten our DNA strands. This not only shortens your overall lifespan but also diminishes the quality of that shortened life—manifesting as premature graying or balding, wrinkles, the development of common folks/chronic diseases, reduced immunity, joint problems, erectile dysfunction, and more.
Therefore, permanently giving up animal-based foods and drinks (!) is an excellent decision to make right away. At the same time, switching to a 100% plant-based diet is a crucial part of the solution. Consuming foods rich in catalase and "sirtfoods" is particularly important for rejuvenation, maintaining youthfulness, and facilitating DNA repair—processes that only work effectively *without* animal-based foods!
Catalase: slowing down graying!
As you age, hydrogen peroxide builds up in your hair follicles. This is a natural byproduct that "bleaches" your hair from the inside out. Normally, the enzyme catalase breaks this hydrogen peroxide down into water and oxygen. As you get older, catalase levels decline, causing your hair to turn gray. Consequently, a diet rich in catalase specifically helps maintain your natural hair color.
The best sources of catalase are nuts, kernels, and seeds (which also provide the iron, copper, zinc, and fats needed for the process). These sources are highly stable, whereas fruits and vegetables (such as cruciferous vegetables, potatoes, apples, bananas, berries, etc.) tend to lose catalase rapidly due to ripening or cooking processes.
Sirtuins "Sirtfood": DNA REPAIR!
Sirtuins are a group of proteins found in all living organisms. They halt gene replication and facilitate DNA repair, thereby promoting rejuvenation. In doing so, they can extend your lifespan by 10–30%. They also appear to aid in weight loss and counteract inflammation and cancer formation in the body.
However, a key requirement is that they must be activated; this can generally be achieved in two ways:
1. Through biological stress: for example, via fasting, saunas, cold therapy, or calorie restriction.
2. Through the nutrients resveratrol and quercetin.
• Resveratrol is found primarily in raisins, grapes, peanuts, and blueberries.
• Quercetin is found primarily in apples, capers, red onions, chicory, sweet potatoes, kale, and berries.
The presence of Niacin (vitamin B3) is also necessary to provide essential electrons. Foods containing Niacin include:
• Legumes
• Green leafy vegetables
• Nutritional yeast
• Sunflower seeds
• Whole grains
• Peanuts & nuts
It is clearly important to maintain a varied plant-based diet to ensure an abundant supply of plant proteins, activators, and niacin.
Animal-based foods introduce inflammatory factors that inhibit the sirtuin process; therefore, despite containing niacin, they are unsuitable.
Switch to a 100% plant-based diet
The earlier you give up animal products and switch to a plant-based diet, the better. Less damage means less repair is required. However, making this switch—even at an older age—remains important for your overall health and for rejuvenating your body from the inside out, benefiting areas such as your skin, hair, bones, muscles, tendons, and gastrointestinal tract. So:
1. Stop eating/drinking all animal products completely.
2. Switch to a 100% plant-based diet.
3. Focus on nuts, kernels, seeds, blueberries, apples, and bananas—incorporating them into your daily bowl of oatmeal.
Eat this oatmeal for breakfast, and perhaps for dinner too. Make it a regular habit, and your recovery will slowly but surely get underway. You’ll also lose weight, because the Beta-glucans in the oats bind to the body's own fat and eliminate it through your stool. That’s how you eat your way to health and a slim figure!
